When God Sends a Wake-Up Call... You Listen
A lesson, a reminder, and a journey back in
Peace fam,
You ever have one of those moments where God just smacks you across the face? Yeah… that happened to me the other week.
So let’s rewind a bit. Back in December, when Betel and I went home to Massachusetts for Christmas, it was nothing but love—seeing the whole gang after moving to Seattle last January felt special. But one moment really stood out. My little bro, Dude — David, gave both Betel and me Bibles as gifts. Not just any Bibles—he put in the work, filing every chapter, marking key passages. This man is deep in his spiritual journey. He’s read the Bible multiple times, shares verses daily, mentors his friends, and won’t even listen to regular rap—strictly Christian hip-hop (and the songs actually slap).
When he gave me the Bible, he said, “You’re about to be a husband—you better read this.” And I took that energy seriously… or at least I thought I did.
January? I was on it. Every day, locked in. February? Slowed down. Then the other week? I hadn’t even touched it.
And that’s when God stepped in.
During a kickoff call with the NBA (yep, NBA—we’ll get into how I put that deal together another time), there was a woman name Zipporah aka Zippy, on the call whose name didn’t register at first. Someone asked how to pronounce it, and she proudly explained: “It’s the name of Moses’ wife.”
That hit me like a brick.

I had literally just read about her in Exodus, but clearly, I wasn’t really reading it—I wasn’t letting it sink in. That moment was my reminder, loud and clear: Pick up your Bible. Read again. With both eyes open this time.
So that’s exactly what I did. And now, I feel locked back in.
For the past three years, I’ve observed Ramadan in solidarity with my Muslim brothers and sisters. But lately, I’ve been diving deeper into Orthodox Christianity, so this is my first year observing Lent through the Orthodox fast, and I’m excited to document this journey.
The biggest lesson so far? God will remind you. Loudly, if necessary.
I heard Him this time.
You know the deal—I’m building this space to share my stories, and I’d love for you to be part of it. If you enjoyed this, do me a favor: share it with five of your closest people who’d vibe with Fredo’s House.
Peace,
Fredo
